As well as the cake pans, I also bought a dome cover for my cake stand, a new flat-blade spatula, a dough scraper and some disposable piping bags.
I am about to put in another online order. To a cake store on the other side of Brisbane. They have some fantastic cake decorating supplies that will make decorating the cakes so much easier. And I will have the leftovers to play with. :-) I need to get that order in today so that they will arrive in time for me to bake a couple of small sample cakes to practice decorating and finalise my designs. But I am having trouble deciding what I need vs what I want vs what I can afford.
I also bought the white chocolate that I will need for both cakes. Whittakers chocolate was on sale this week at Woolworths - two blocks for $5. So I decided to by the chocolate I need now, as it is unlikely to be this cheap again in the next few weeks. As an overweight woman, there is no way to buy enough white chocolate to make enough cake for 2 x 100 people without looking like I have major food issues. I put the 3 kg of chocolate (8 x white, 4 x dark blocks) on the counter, and the checkout chick looked at it, then at me, and sheepishly said, "It's good to be able to take advantage of the sales when they are on, isn't it?" I was so tempted to just look blankly at her and say, "I have my period."
I didn't. I said, "I am making a chocolate cake for a wedding." I don't think she believed me. I should have gone with my period line.
